Everyone remembers their first love, right?

And, if you’re anything like us, unrequited fictional first loves were infinitely more rewarding and enjoyable than the actual real deal – they could always be trusted to fall in love with the right girl!

So, it’s time to hold your head up high, take a deep breath and confess your secret –the first fictional man you ever lost a night’s sleep over!

In case you’re feeling shy, Romance HQ will go first. Below is the list of some of our very first fictional crushes…please don’t judge us!

  • Prince Charming – he’s spawned a multitude of copycats, but what’s not to love about the original?!
  • Zach from Saved by the Bell – in all of his neon-jumpered glory! (Completely indicates my 90s childhood…)
  • Scott Robinson (Jason Donovan) in Neighbours – oh to be Charlene…
  • Rhett Butler – at 13 he was utterly irresistible. And is still my favourite EVER bad-boy. If your reputation is compromised just by being seen talking to him at a party then he must be truly rakish!
  • Scott Tracy from Thunderbirds. I was little, and quite upset when I found out he was in fact a puppet.
  • George Clooney/Dr Ross. I was totally obsessed with the damaged, child of a man who was so devastatingly sexy and used meaningless sex to fill a heart-sized hole. He was the bad boy we all wanted to tame and the doctor we all wanted to heal.
  • Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone – aged 5, who else would you rather enjoy a free house with?! Oh how the times have changed…
  • Chico from West Side Story – his murdering tendencies weren’t so obvious when I was ten!
  • Peter Pan, the coolest boy in Neverland!
  • Hunky Disney heroes the world over - Eric from the Little Mermaid; Aladdin, if you like your men with a tan; or even Robin Hood the fox, if you like your heroes furry!

Phew. Well, that was embarrassing (and very enlightening about fellow Romance HQ colleagues!) – Anyone else want to get involved in this Hall of Shame? Let us know your first ever fictional crushes…and the more embarrassing the better!

  • Oh yes Christine - Buck Rogers.. who could resist?

BTW Is it all in my mind or is there something a bit naughty in that name?

  • Of course - Remington Steele! The first time I saw him, I thought. That's the next James Bond! Took years but they got him in the end. Bruce Willis in Moonlighting - should have come with his own fire extinguisher.

Going way way back in time, my parents actually let me stay up late to watch Richard Rountree in...Shaft? Didn't know what the hell was going on, but that smile he gave at the end when he solved the case....whooo!!

And the lead in Due South whose name escapes me - very watchable indeed.
