Thank you everyone who has voted! We’re hugely excited to announce the Top 4 entries that will now be going on to writing their pivotal moment! So, in no particular order:
Beguiling the Enemy by Lindsay J. Pryor
Why the judges loved it
This had really strong tension between Kane and Caitlin, along with a fantastic storytelling voice and wonderful world building. The second chapter maintained the pace and excitement and kept us on the edge of our seats.
Why you loved it
Many of you voted for this entry without being paranormal romance readers yourselves! The story’s pace, intrigue and tension between the characters – and a suitably dark and dangerous hero – made this a fabulously compelling read for you.
What Lindsay can work on as she continues her story
The plot and secondary characters all added great texture and drama to this story, however as the story continues we’d want to see that the love story still stays front and centre.
Secrets and Seduction by Katie Graham
Why the judges loved it
The Historical category was really tough this year, however we felt this story added something new and fresh to the genre. Katie’s great, vibrant voice and the eye catching (and eye popping!) beginning grabbed us straight away and never let go!
Why you loved it
Many of you love the characters and the chemistry between them. You also love how the story has been unfolding with great pace – and want to know what happens next!
What Katie can work on as she continues her story
Holly’s appealing character meant that we all got on board with how she ended up hidden in the wardrobe, however making sure that the motivation of her hero and heroine is crystal clear as the story continues will ensure that her readers stay hooked.
Honeymoon with a Stranger by Charlotte Phillips
Why the judges loved it
We were with Anna in this story 100% of the way – she carried us along and made us root for her at every twist and turn. The set up was really fun and engaging, and Charlotte’s voice was witty, warm and charming.
Why you loved it
Many of you love the characters and the sharp dialogue between them, and have great empathy with the heroine. You also love the flow of the story and the touches of humour, making this a fabulously feel-good read!
What Charlotte can work on as she continues her story
We’d love to see Charlotte keep surprising us by bringing fresh twists to the internal conflicts and characters, as this is something that will maximise the impact of her beautiful contemporary voice.
The Seven Day Target by Natalie Charles
Why the judges loved it
The spark between Libby and Nick really stood out in this entry. We loved their snappy dialogue and Natalie did a fantastic job of bringing them and their connection to life. Shared past stories are not always easy to execute, but this entry is a great example of how to get the balance between past mistakes and current sizzling attraction absolutely spot on!
Why you loved it
Many of you love the dialogue and intrigue in this riveting romantic suspense story – and are very eager to read more!
What Natalie can work on as she continues her story
The story was really compelling, however at moments we did find ourselves having to reread certain details as there were so many elements to this story. Making sure all the plot threads are as clear as possible will help Natalie continue to shine.
